Authors sometimes leave plot holes by mistake. Or have bloopers that we don’t realize until after publishing. And then it’s too late. Or maybe some will fix it and re-release.
In the case of Detour, two reviews have mentioned Ella being alone with her phone for thirty minutes and not making a phone call while being kidnapped.
Was this a blooper? Nope.
In an earlier scene I mentioned she’d shown Deacon the Find Friends app and they had tracked one another between phones.
Since Deacon would quickly find out Ella was taken what with Bronto being shot and left on the road in the middle of town, if I’m in Ella’s head, I’m thinking he’s going to find my location on the phone app as long as I can keep the phone with me. And it’s better to keep the phone hidden rather than risking getting caught with it. She didn’t know she’d be in the room alone for thirty minutes. For all she knew, someone could come in and catch her with the phone and take it and thus lower the chance of Deacon having access to her location in case she was moved. Her uncle did get the phone eventually, but she lied about how to turn it off and her uncle fell for it.
Not everyone would’ve handled that situation the same way, but no it wasn’t a blooper / blunder.
This was only mentioned by two reviewers (from what I’ve noticed), but thought it was worth addressing.
Thanks!
